10 Tips for Keeping Kids Cool and Entertained on Beach Holidays: From Beach Toys to Boat Tours

Beach holidays can be a lot of fun, but when you have kids in tow, it can be challenging to keep them entertained and comfortable in the heat. Fortunately, there are many ways to keep your little ones busy and cool during your beach vacation.

Here are some of the best ways to keep your kids entertained on beach holidays and tips for keeping them cool and out of the heat:

  1. Bring toys and games

One of the easiest ways to keep kids entertained on the beach is by bringing toys and games. Depending on the age of your children, you can bring sand toys, frisbees, beach balls, and other outdoor games. If you have older kids, consider bringing board games or card games to play in the shade. Our KeepEmQuiet busybags are also a great option to use on the journey and also for by the beach, in the shade on a sun lounger under a palm tree or parasol!

  1. Go for a swim in the children's pool

The beach is the perfect place to take a swim and cool off. Some resorts have child friendly shallow pools, where children are able to stand up and the water is only ankle height. You can play with your kids in the water, or if they are old enough, teach them how to swim or surf. Always ensure they're wearing floatation devices when they are not competent swimmers. The best floatation devices we have found are made by Konfidence, as the are tested and are secure for children of all ages and swimming capabililites.

  1. Build sandcastles

Building sandcastles is a classic beach activity that children love. You can bring buckets and shovels, or you can get creative and build more elaborate structures. You can also make it a competition between family members or other beachgoers. Bringing buckets along to the beach in your suitcase is a hassle, but buying them at tourist prices is even worse, the best solution we have found for this are foldable, silicone buckets & spades, a brand name Scrunch make the best versions of these and they are a staple for traveling families, as they simple roll up to fit inside your suitcase and are super easy to clean!

  1. Take a walk - search for shells!

Taking a walk along the beach is a great way to enjoy the scenery and get some exercise. You can search for shells, explore the tide pools, or simply enjoy the sunset with your family. Searching for shells is a great past time, we have a lare collection now and use them at home in the bath or as soap holders. Just make sure that the shells are empty before transporting them home, we've had little creatures crawl out of the bucket in the hotel room before!

Now, let's talk about how to keep kids cool and out of the heat on the beach.

  1. Stay hydrated

When it's hot outside, it's important to stay hydrated. Make sure you bring plenty of water, and encourage your kids to drink regularly. Avoid sugary drinks, as they can dehydrate the body. Electrolyte drinks are also good to keep on standby in the cooler. Natural coconut water is a great hydrating drink packed full of naturally ocurring electrolytes.

     2. Stay in the shade

It's essential to protect your kids from the sun's harmful rays. Make sure you bring an umbrella or a beach tent for shade. If there's no shade available, you can use a beach towel or a large hat to cover up.

  1. Wear sun protection

Wearing sunscreen is a must when you're spending time at the beach. Choose a sunscreen with a high SPF and apply it regularly throughout the day. Don't forget to protect your child's eyes with sunglasses and a hat. Try these Solar Buddies sunscreen applicators if you want to make applying SPF more fun.

  1. Take breaks

It's easy to get caught up in the fun and forget to take breaks. But it's important to take breaks and rest in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion. You can take a nap, read a book, or play a quiet game in the shade.

  1. Avoid peak hours

The sun's rays are strongest between Midday and 4 p.m. It's best to avoid the beach during these hours or seek shade during this time. Consider going to the beach early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the sun isn't as strong.

  1. Bring beach toys

Beach toys can provide hours of entertainment for your kids. Scrunch buckets are a great option because they are lightweight, collapsible, and easy to pack. They are perfect for building sandcastles, digging holes, and collecting shells. You can also bring other beach toys, such as water guns, beach volleyball sets, or kites, to keep your kids engaged and having fun.

  1. Get creative with arts and crafts

If your kids need a break from the sun, you can get creative with arts and crafts. Bring a sketchbook and some pencils or crayons, or pack some craft supplies like paint and brushes. Your kids can create their own beach-inspired art or make friendship bracelets to give to their new beach friends.

  1. Have a picnic

Having a picnic is a great way to take a break from the sun and enjoy some delicious snacks. You can pack sandwiches, fruit, and other snacks, and bring a cooler with drinks to keep everyone hydrated. You can also bring a beach umbrella or a beach tent to provide some shade while you eat.

  1. Rent water sports equipment

If your kids are older, renting water sports equipment can be a great way to have fun and stay cool. You can rent paddleboards, kayaks, or snorkeling gear and explore the ocean together. Always make sure to use the proper safety equipment and follow any rules or regulations.

  1. Take a boat tour

Another way to enjoy the water and stay cool is to take a boat tour. You can book a snorkeling tour, a dolphin watching tour, or a sunset cruise, depending on your interests. This is a great way to see more of the area and learn about the local marine life.

By adding these additional points, you'll have even more ideas for keeping your kids entertained on the beach. With a little bit of planning and preparation, your beach holiday can be a fun and memorable experience for the whole family.

In conclusion, keeping your kids entertained and comfortable on the beach can be easy with the right planning and preparation. Make sure you bring toys and games, go for a swim, build sandcastles, play beach sports, and take a walk to keep them entertained. To keep them cool and out of the heat, stay hydrated, stay in the shade, wear sun protection, take breaks, and avoid peak hours. With these tips in mind, you're sure to have a fun and safe beach holiday with your kids.
